Elisa Brenters

First name: Elisa
Surname: Brenters
Country of origin: Belgium
Subtheme: Society, Culture

Elisa Brenters (Belgium, 1986) was

awarded her bachelor’s degree in photography

this year at the Sint-Lukas Brussels

University College of Art and Design. In her

work for BREDAPHOTO she subjects her

surroundings to a photographic investigation

and in so doing steers the viewer into

her personal world. We see photos taken in

different situations: indoors and outdoors,

at home and travelling. All of them are characterised

by an everyday quality that initially

gives us the feeling that we were present

when they were taken, not least because

they are all so uncontrived and natural.

Yet Brenters manages to capture precious

moments that transcend the humdrum of

everyday reality. To keep her intervention

as minimal as possible, Brenters chose to

register everything with an automatic and

analogue 35mm camera. Her photos radiate

sincerity and directness. They convey

an action, or some play of light or colour.

They reflect simple things that are often

taken for granted, but behind which there

lies sometimes profound love.
