Peter Granser

First name: Peter
Surname: Granser
Country of origin: Germany
Subtheme: Financial, Conflict, Politics, Society, Religion

Peter Granser (Germany, 1971) is selftaught.

He is a member of the POC-Project

photographers’ collective and in 2001 took

part in the Joop Swart Master Class organised

by World Press Photo. He won the

Prix Découverte des Rencontres d’Arles

(2002) and the Leica Oskar Barnack Award

(2004). Granser exhibits all over the world

and his works can be found in public collections

such as the Museum of Fine Arts

in Houston, the Fundación Ordóñez Falcó

in Spain and the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. He

has published four books: Sun City (2003),

Alzheimer (2005), Coney Island (2006) and

SIGNS (2008).

The photos for SIGNS were taken in 2006

and 2007 in Texas and show us (often literally)

the signs of Texan society. Many of

them are related to themes such as war, religion

and money. In a detached but simultaneously

committed manner, Granser

lays bare the tensions in the State of Texas:

the home of former Republican president

George W. Bush, the state where John F.

Kennedy was assassinated, and the location

of the largest military base and the

largest church in the United States.
